Marath Baruch Bolaños, Secretary of Labor, made his stage reappearance in the “mañanera” [presidential morning press conference] boasting that the “Youths Building the Future” program has surpassed 3 million beneficiaries and that they expect to add 500 thousand more by 2026. All applause, all optimism. The funny thing is that Marath was coming straight from an elegant event: the induction of Roberto VelascoÁlvarez, PhD to the Mexican Academy of International Law, where the event was full of high-profile personalities. Attendees included from Ricardo Martínez Rojas, founding partner of de la Vega & Martínez Rojas; José Ramón de la Fuente, representing the Department of Foreign Affairs; Rigoberta Menchú as guest of honor; to the president of the CCE and the Academy Manuel Reguera. Everyone congratulated Velasco on his thesis on the relationship with the United States and the need to protect Mexican sovereignty. An academic, diplomatic… and very solemn milieu. While sovereignty and our national vision were discussed in those forums, Marath offered an extensive perspective for young people in the “mañanera”. Lots of pretty information and many congratulations in his return to the public agenda.

José Alberto “Pepe” Couttolenc, leader of the Green Party in the State of Mexico, returned to the political arena, claiming that they are pursuing the same goal achieved in Mexico City: to have bullfights, yes, but without killing the bull. The congressman announced that he will present a proposal to eliminate all manners of bullfighting cruelty, and leaving only the “leading the bull with the cape” portion, taking the model used in the capital city. He noted that this is not a new topic for him: he has already introduced similar bills in 2018 and 2021, and now he says that the Green Party will continue pushing because “defending animals is defending life.” Mind you, he did indicate that he will seek to bring other political parties together in order to reach a united ruling, as there is pressure from collective groups outside of Congress and nobody wants to do wrong by living beings … or by voters.
