For the last 8 years, the Federal government has been promoting a new labor policy in Mexico that, while it has helped to resolve long-standing problems and bad practices, it also poses a challenge for entrepreneurs that must adapt to the new labor laws and implement the necessary processes to remain productive.

This is why the Mexican Institute of Finance Executives [IMEF] organized the conference on “From the Reform to Efficiency: How the New Labor Laws are Transforming Productivity in Mexico”, presented by Enrique García Conde, LLB and lawyer Yuliana Echeverría Botello, of the De La Vega Martínez Rojas Law Firm.

The lawyers addressed the strategic role of labor relations and HR directors in generating profits for companies; the need for finding a balance between business productivity and an increasingly regulated and scrutinized labor environment with new obligations for Mexican employers.

For García Conde the new labor policy poses contradictions for entrepreneurs, who find themselves between two major inhibitors of investment: uncertainty and the implementation of a new judicial reform, which makes it complicated to establish labor laws in a short period of time, a situation that, in his opinion, will require an adaptation period for companies.

For his part, Echeverría Botello said that, while these new laws cause inconvenience to employers, it is important to acknowledge that this is the new Mexican reality and that, in turn, it is a response to the demands of sectors of the population that had not been taken into consideration in the past.

Héctor Javier Mancilla, president of the Monterrey Group IMEF, thanked the speakers for sharing their analyses with the members of the business institute and took the opportunity to say goodbye to them and thank them for their support during his presidency and wished the best of luck to the incoming president, María Concepción del Alto.
