27% of the USMCA is in the automotive industry; therefore, what the President of the United States seeks is to repatriate the factories and that is where we have the greatest risk; we have even heard statements made by Nissan and Ford about stopping investment in Mexico in order to avoid the 25% tariff, experts said, at the “2025, a year of risks and opportunities in labor matters” forum, organized by the De la Vega & Martínez Rojas Firm.
In his presentation, Carlos Elizondo, professor at the Tecnológico de Monterrey, stated that, in terms of employment, 2025 poses significant challenges, as a deceleration is taking place and it will be affected by the imposition of tariffs; “there will be perhaps between 220,000 and 420,000 jobs in the entire Mexican economy”, it is clear that adjustments will be downward, he pointed out.
