SITIAVW approves agreement with Volkswagen with a salary increase of 10.5%

63% of the Volkswagen workers in Puebla approved the agreement, with 4,195 votes in favor and 2,475 against, which prevented the strike. An increase of 10.5% and permanent contracts for 321 employees were agreed upon.

Puebla, September 19, 2024.- With 63% of the votes, the Volkswagen workers at the Puebla plant approved, on September 13, the agreement proposed by the Volkswagen Independent Union of Automotive Industry Workers (SITIAVW) and the company’s management, thus avoiding the strike programmed for September 19, 2024. This agreement was ratified by 4,195 workers, while 2,475 were opposed. According to Oscar de la Vega, legal representative of the company, “This is clear proof of the freedom of association and collective bargaining that exists inside Volkswagen México”, highlighting compliance with the labor reform in Mexico.


The new collective bargaining agreement will be in force for two years and includes a global increase of 10.5%; from which 7% corresponds directly to salary and 3.5% in benefits. The offer also includes hiring 321 temporary workers for an indefinite period of time, providing greater employment stability. Hugo Tlalpan, general secretary of SITIAVW, stated that the agreement guarantees stability for the workers and announced that important changes are coming to the plant, relating to electromobility.


With information from Directorio Automotriz [Automotive Directory] the Volkswagen plant in Puebla continues to be one of the most important and productive plants in the country. In the first eight months of 2024, 117,304 units of the Tiguan Model, 77,994 units of the Jetta model and 74,786 units of the Taos SUV were manufactured in it. Additionally, 217 test units of an unspecified model were also manufactured. With an installed capacity of 73.72% and a yearly production of up to 550,000 units, this plant continues being a pillar of the automotive industry in Mexico, having over 7,000 direct employees.
